I was in the store and noticed the Johnnie Walker Collection on sale for a significant holiday discount.
The Johnnie Walker Collection contains Black Label (which I reviewed here and found to be all right), Gold Label Reserve, Platinum Label, and Blue Label. That's three scotches I have never had and one that I think is a solid if unspectacular buy.
My scotch sense started tingling. I did some quick mental math to see what I'd be paying per ounce for the different liquids, and... well, it wasn't bad.
Plus I'd get a chance at Johnnie Walker Blue Label, a silly expensive and crazy prestigious liquor.
I bought it.
Honestly, I felt like I had to.
For some background, I'm honestly not the biggest Johnnie Walker guy out there. I favor smaller distilleries that produce smaller volumes. In theory, more care goes into each piece of fluid, and a tighter flavor profile is targeted. This is compared to a blend of whiskies from several distilleries producing whiskies of variable quality and flavors.
Blenders might argue that just as much care goes into actually blending the whiskies to achieve the exact right ratios on the palate.
But preferences are preferences, and mine tend towards the single malts.
That said, it's not every day you get the chance to slug some Johnnie Walker Blue Label, and I want to see what the hype is about ever bit as much as the next guy. Oh, and some Platinum and Gold Label Reserve thrown in for funnsies.
I'll take that.
So get excited, because some reviews are coming down the hatch for you, and we will be waltzing right on through my regular price ceiling.
