Three Open Bottles, What To Do, What To Do?

I keep my bottles of scotch on top of the fridge.  Well, all my liquor goes there, but it just so happens that most of it is scotch.

Over the last six months, since I've been blogging, my scotch tasting has gone into an absolute frenzy.  I have scoured stores and the internet for good deals on bottles to taste and to review.

It got expensive.

I also arrived at a - great! - problem to have:

I had tons and tons of scotch.

However, scotch doesn't last forever.  Once opened, the length of time before the bottle starts to lose flavor is inversely related to how much of the bottle has been drunk.  Put differently, the less there is in the bottle, the more quickly it'll go bad.

A rule of thumb is that if your bottle is half full, you've probably got 6-12 months to get'er done.  Obviously this is not a problem... unless you have 12+ bottles on top of your fridge.

I had to slow down with the buying and get going with the drinking.  I started plowing through the ones that were closest to empty - my beautiful Dalmore 15, my stunningly intense Ardbeg Corryvreckan, my glorious Aberlour A'bunadh - then worked my way through the rest.

I have three left from the original group: GlenDronach 12, Ardbeg Uigeadail, and Laphroaig Cairdeas 2015.  These are three tremendously different scotches, with the GlenDronach a certified sherry monster, and the Laphroaig a certified peat monster, and the Ardbeg... wellllll... let's just say there's elements of both and leave it at that for now.

You can expect reviews for all three in the coming weeks.

The last few nights however, I've noticed something funny.

Each night, I poured myself a drink, and each night I reached for the same bottle.  Each night I stopped and considered going for one of the other two, and each night I couldn't bring myself to do it.

That must say something, right?

If you're wondering, the bottle I reached for was the Laphroaig Cairdeas.

Interesting, no?
